Viewsonic PJD5122 projector problem

I got the projector to used for tv. After about 600 hrs of use green flashes began to flicker every so often. Now they are consistant after 5 minutes of running. Projector had an estimated lamp life of 4000 hrs. They were wrong; do I need a new lamp?
